Roadmap
I've received a lot of great feedback from beta testers (thank you!) and many people have requested the same features, so I've got a pretty good idea where Choosy should be going over the next few versions.
Planned features
This isn't set in stone, but over the course of the next few releases I hope to provide the following:
- Plugin architecture. I'd love other developers to be able to add their own functionality. Things like a “bookmark with Delicious” icon in the browser prompt.
- Browser plugins. I'd like to build a set of standard browser plugins that all provide the same level of integration and functionality across all the major browsers. ChoosySafari is a good example of what I'd like to do in other browsers.
- Translation into multiple languages. The list of languages has not been finalised, but it will probably include German, Swedish and Brazilian Portuguese. If you want to help with translation let me know, there's a free copy of Choosy in it for you.
Other possible features
These things are a little more speculative. If you see something you really like here, the best way to make sure it gets added is to vote for it on the Choosy feedback page.
-
Tiger support. Choosy currently only runs under Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard). I'd like to support OS X 10.4 (Tiger) but I need to look into this further before I can commit to getting this done for version 1.0.Unfortunately Tiger support is no longer viable. There were some very compelling reasons to use Leopard-specific features in version 0.9.3. Apologies to any Tiger users who had been hoping to see support.
And finally
If you didn't see the killer feature you wanted in the list, why not suggest it over on the Choosy feedback page or email george@choosyosx.com. I don't promise to implement every request, but they are all read and carefully considered.
